In keeping with it’s ground breaking vision of wellness, the building Balance Bethlehem calls home is an example of state-of-the-art responsible design. Special attention has been given to energy efficiency and thermal comfort through a superinsulated thermal envelope, air tight construction and and greatly reduced thermal bridging. In addition to reduced heat loads, Balance reduces other energy loads through LED lighting, excellent passive solar orientation, ductless-minisplit heat pump heating and cooling, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery and an ultra efficient heat pump hot water tank (HPHW). These energy reductions allow Balance to be powered by a 26 Kw solar photovoltaic array. Environmental plans contributing to the wellness of patrons and the earth include the building’s walkable in-town brownfield location, impeccable indoor air quality, permaculture-based landscaping, kitchen gardens and filtered tap water.
